About me
Born in Fairfax, Virginia, in the shadow of the nation’s capital, my journey has been defined by a constant pursuit of the horizon. After completing my education at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, I spent almost two decades in Southern California before finding my current home in the vibrant coastal city of Fort Lauderdale in 2021.
I am a traveler who thrives on the adrenaline of the unknown. I rarely travel with a rigid itinerary, preferring the spontaneity of an open road and an unplanned destination. My philosophy is rooted in "slow travel"—often staying in remote corners of the world for extended periods to truly absorb the local culture and wait out the elements. This immersion ensures that when I finally depart, I leave with a sense of completion rather than a list of "what-ifs."
My greatest passion lies at the intersection of rigorous physical activity and photography. I am an explorer who seeks out exotic, rugged landscapes over the hum of major cities, often venturing into developing and remote regions where tourists are few and the experiences are raw. From helicopter hikes and grizzly bear trekking to the technical challenges of ice climbing and canyoning, I am driven to try everything once.
What began as a collection of photos shared with friends has evolved into this blog. Driven by their encouragement, I launched MyScenicDetour to transform my personal adventures into a resource for others. It is my absolute passion to help my friends navigate the globe through the lens of my experiences, turning the daunting into the doable for those who crave the path less traveled.
